32 Words That Can Change Your Life

helpful_tips_imageI found this little tidbit and thought is was a great time to share it.  As we move forward with life changes it is always good to use this test to see if the new opportunities fit into what your plan.  Being an engineer I tend to either over analyze things or use that female intuition.

There is an easier way to determine if our choices we make and the opportunities we receive ‘pass the test’. This simple 32 word statement of business ethics was first created in the 1930s and used to turn around a failing company. These four questions were applied by each employee to each and to every minute detail of the company’s workings. This little list of four questions from Rotary International, a humanitarian business organization, is the most widely printed, translated and reproduced piece of business ethics today:

“Of the things we say, think or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

If we built businesses and our lives based on these very simple four questions we would be coming from a place completely the opposite of the competitive mind and the lack mentality. As you can see, these questions prompt you to choose what is true, fair, and good, making choices that can build friendships and goodwill. It helps us to see how the choices we make can be beneficial to all concerned.

Because of our societal influences, we most often are inclined to make choices and act based on a competitive mind. This comes from the perspective of lack, scarcity, and ultimately greed.

I invite you to use these questions to test your actions and opportunities in your life. If you are seeking opportunity, these questions may help you see things in a different way. In doing this, perhaps you might find an opportunity in your life which truly allows you to benefit the world, while at the same time reaching whatever your dreams, goals, and desires are.

New Beginnings

Me on my 51st birthday. By Dalia Hibbs

Me on my 51st birthday. By Dalia Hibbs

Well, I took a break for a bit to get some things in order in my life.  And yes that has lead to some new beginnings.  As you may notice on the horse websites I have removed Rick from the contact pages.  As of July 23, 2013 we are divorced.  Yes, it was quick, but it was necessary.

As I move forward, I will have more time to focus on the horses, learning to ride my Harley, and of course this site as well as others.  I already have a consulting job lined up on the engineering side.  I will be looking for more local businesses to work with.  This will start slow at first as I am getting my bearings, adjusting to taking care of the ranch, and yes, dating.

I have been doing some behind the scene things.  This is a picture on July, 15, 2013.  The cheerful glow is knowing that things are getting much better.  Dalia brought me flowers and took this wonderful picture.  I also had some head shots and other poses taken for the web sites.  I should get them soon and will be updating some things.

So come along for the ride down this new path.  I have joined the IM Rockstar Post-a-Day Challenge so you will be getting more posts as this challenge continues.  If you would like to join me in the IM Rockstar Facebook Group and get lots of great support from our group leader Lisa Gergets and other members let me know and I will hook you up.

3 Simple Ways to Get More Clients

clients2Obtaining clients can appear to be a difficult challenge for many businesses, entrepreneurs and freelancers. But the key factor in obtaining these clients is to think outside of the box.

Below are three simple ways to get more clients in order to maximize your business’s potential.

Encourage Referrals

Encourage your friends, family members and current clients to give referrals. In return you could give a bonus for every lead that converts.

Host a contest to reward the top referring person or persons. Word-of-mouth referring is one of the best marketing strategies as it is one of the least expensive, yet most effective lead generators.

Attach Marketing Items to All Correspondence

When you send an email, make sure your signature lines include all relevant contact/connect information, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media profile links.

Include a link to your blog or website with a short description of a current or upcoming promotion of new products and services. Additionally, attach your marketing materials to invoices, payment reminders and other outgoing correspondence.

Take Advantage of Free Advertising

Sites such as Craigslist and eBay are excellent channels of scoring clients. It costs nothing to post an ad in the general or small business sections of your local Craigslist page. Many people forget to utilize eBay’s free classifieds to advertise.

To maximize your success of attracting potential customers, make your ad more visually appealing with images. You don’t have to know Photoshop and other high-caliber software to do so. If you’re not looking to hire a freelancer to design your ad but you are familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint or Publisher, you can design your own ad and generate an HTML code for your image by simply uploading it to sites such as Photobucket.

Obtaining clients requires effort, consistency and often creativity. When one strategy seems useless, re-strategize by researching ways that have proven effective. Make sure you have a marketing plan that includes some current marketing trends and modify it accordingly.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Organic_SEOIf you are a normal to average internet user who is aware of the things happening around it, then you have probably come across the term SEO or Search Engine Optimization. Now this might just sound like a common term for you, but do you really know the definition of it?

What is search engine optimization and how do you use it? SEO is a technique that is being used and practiced specifically by those who aim to rank up their websites. When you are looking for something at any search engine such as Google, what you do is type in the keywords or topic that you are looking for, right?

Then you are being led to several matches although it is quite noticeable as to how certain sites are at the uppermost corner of the search.

Did you ever wonder why this happens? How do these sites manage to be on top of the ranking? The reason behind it is the magic of SEO.

It is a strategy used in Internet Marketing by optimizing a website. But first, you will need to have a definite plan on how you are going to utilize this technique.

Basically, SEO falls into two wide categories which are Black Hat and White Hat SEO. Black Hat SEO uses tricky ways to generate more traffic to a certain website.

This can be done in sneaky ways such as stuffing keywords and paid linking. If you are after an honest to goodness technique, then the White Hat SEO is for you.

This can be achieved by using clean and exact methods that will genuinely draw interest from readers. Some of these methods include adding photos and videos to your posts.

Improving the quality of your content is also another way to gain more viewers. Although the sneaky techniques may be successful at ranking higher, search engines are now becoming less lenient about this so it is always better to do the right thing when it comes to optimizing your site.

How To Research A Niche Market

Finding a Targeted Niche - Magnifying GlassGetting people to your website is a very important skill. It’s not just about writing content and generating a buzz around it, although those are important skills too.

If you area small business then you have your niche figured out.  If you are wanting to start something on the web or grow what you are currently doing then keep reading and find our how to grow in your niche.

The work begins way before you start writing on your site, as you need to find the perfect niche – the subject of your website. Niche research is about finding profitable subjects that are broad enough to write enough content about, yet narrow enough for you to become an authority on the topic.

A great way to establish the popularity of a niche market is to use the Google AdWords keyword tool. Simply type in the name of the niche and you will see the number of searches performed each month, along with lots of related keywords.

If you sign in to the tool, you will also see the average price you would expect to pay to advertise on the front page of Google for each term. This should give you a feel for how much money there is to be made in the niche you have chosen to research.

There are a number of ways to find out how much competition you will face if you launch a site in a particular niche market. For a very quick and broad estimation, simply search for the niche name in speech marks in Google.

The higher the number of results returned, the more competition is out there. Of course, this doesn’t give you much insight into the quality of the competition, just the quantity.

To get a more reliable indication of how tough a keyword will be to rank for in search results, there are free tools to download, popular ones include Market Samurai and Traffic Travis. These will analyze things like how many inbound links are pointing to sites already ranking for the niche terms.

This gives a far more accurate picture of competition, but can take a while to fully research.

By doing your niche research properly, you will save time and effort. Focusing on the wrong markets will usually result in poor results, namely profit. When you find a niche market with plenty of search volume, good advertiser spend and relatively low competition, you have truly found your niche.
